Why are you considered an *** kisser when you give a compliment?

The insult is vulgar and ridiculous since it is obvious you have nothing to gain by giving a compliment to acquaintances. I have noticed that many young people are suspicious of compliments and often of just plain appreciation - or any show of enthusiasm. They fear some vague threats. some nasty ulterior motive or have so little regard for themselves they cannot believe a compliment to be sincere. Also might be the thought that it is cool to be distanced and indifferent to everything. Hostility being "safer". I hope you won't change your personality - I hope you will keep your charming ways. What you need is a new group and mature correspondents.
